PALS – Portable Airfield Lighting System by Inewatt

The I PALS (INEWATT Portable Airfield Lighting System) is a portable and autonomous airfield lighting solution, designed for rapid deployment on temporary, fixed or emergency runways, in both civilian and military environments. The entire system is integrated into a removable container mounted on a rugged trailer and can be fully deployed in under 4 hours.

All-in-one Removable Container

At the heart of the system is a mobile, modular, and secure container that enables immediate operation on any terrain. It is designed for the transport, storage, deployment, and operation of a complete airfield lighting system.

Autonomous Electrical Operation

  • The system operates using a constant current of 6.6 A, in compliance with ICAO and FAA international standards.

  • It is powered by two CCRs (Constant Current Regulators), integrated inside the container.

  • The CCRs are supplied by a 10 kW generator (220 V – 60 Hz) included in the system, ensuring full autonomy without reliance on an external power grid.

6.6 A Airfield Lighting with Reinforced Cabling

  • The lighting units are connected in series via special heavy-duty cables, delivering a stable 6.6 A current for optimal visibility both day and night.

  • The EPR (EPDM) rubber-insulated cables are:

    • Resistant to moisture and extreme temperatures (-40 °C to +80 °C),

    • Rated for 5,000 V,

    • Easy to deploy and retract using motorized cable reels.

Contents of the IPALS Container

  • 78 runway edge lights (white LED, 45 W),

  • 24 threshold lights (green/red LED, 45 W),

  • 30 taxiway lights (blue LED, 45 W),

  • 2 modular CCRs with fault indicators,

  • 1 generator – 10 kW, 220 V – 60 Hz,

  • Motorized cable reels, cable-handling trailers,

  • High-resistance cables and color-coded quick connectors,

  • Remote controls:

    • Wired control (100 m),

    • VHF/FM wireless control (can be operated from the aircraft),

  • Junction boxes, storage cases, ground stakes, and maintenance tools.

Key Advantages

  • Fully autonomous system, no fixed infrastructure required,

  • Rapid deployment by only two operators,

  • Enhanced safety, with remote control and stable regulated current,

  • Simplified maintenance, thanks to a modular architecture and rugged components.
